One Formation, Two Plays
October 31, 2001

Recent exploration in the Ricinus and Strachan areas of the Alberta Foothills has led to success in two different types of Nisku prospects. At Strachan, Kaiser and then Canadian 88 have each found Nisku pay at approximately 4,000m in an undisturbed dolomitic buildup over Leduc reefs. This is in great contrast to the nearby Ricinus area, where Husky and Northrock have produced from a thrusted Nisku section at only 1,000m. Porosity and permeability have been greatly enhanced in the shallower prospect, however both plays show great potential.
