April drilling in the WCSB was 78% less active than in March, which isn’t unexpected for breakup season, but the 113 total spuds marked the lowest monthly well count since the bad old days of May 2016. The Montney surpassed the McMurray for most drilled zone, while Devon narrowly took the top operator spot by virtue of its new oil sands and heavy oil wells.
