A Geological and Operational Overview of the Athabasca Oil Sands Area

Over half of the oil produced in Canada today comes from the Athabasca Oil Sands Area. Much of the resource and current commercial-scale production is hosted within the McMurray–Wabiskaw succession. Other formations also contain significant bitumen volumes; projects targeting these zones are at various stages of testing and development.
